The Interview Process

The interview process is one that seemed very beneficial to me in my research. I researched my Dad who works for the Florida Department of Law Enforcement. He has previously worked in the Narcotics department so he was very helpful in giving me useful information that would help me to convey my point that drugs and alcohol are glamorized in the media. He is able to give me stories of experiences he has had in the Narcotics Department. He would arrest people who were dealing drugs by acting as if he was going to buy the drugs from them. He would set up a date and time to meet so would therefore, catch them in the act. I will incorporate this interview into my paper by telling the audience that is reading the paper the consequences that could come from doing drugs… jail, community service, health issues, etc. I will use this research to hopefully inform the audience that drugs and alcohol are not really as glamorized in real life as they are shown in the media and there are actually consequences and tragic results that come with the substance use. I will tell stories of how my Dad has seen the use of drugs and alcohol ruin people’s personal and professional lives. I will also tell how many people thank my dad for catching them because it was a wakeup call for how they are living there lives and they appreciate how they made them realize what they were doing was wrong.

  1. That’s really cool that your dad works for the Florida Department of Law Enforcement. That job also sounds pretty dangerous though. For instance, I’m sure that if during one of those meetings with a drug dealer to catch them in the act goes wrong then your dad would be in some serious trouble. The stories that he can give you would be some of the best evidence/information for your paper. I’m really surprised that people end up thanking your dad in the end for helping them to kind of get their head on straight. But, of all the people your dad has caught, how many go back to their old ways of selling drugs?

  2. I think that this is a great person to interview, and it sounds like your dad has been very useful in providing you with a lot of information on your topic with a sort of "behind the scenes" look at how using drugs REALLY affects people and that it's not all it's cracked up to be. Maybe you already have this in your paper, but what is the actual sentence for someone who has been caught in possession of narcotics?
